FlossLogoMissing in Action - 2008

I am just double checking the Missing in Actions.......A horse called Lancettier (17/05/2008) in a jumps race "Sustained injury, unfit to run". We had him down as Missing in Action. I have been checking on this horse. After this he had 28 weeks off. He raced in Murray Bridge in December, and then again on Boxing Day(2008) in a flat  race where he failed to finish. The Stewards report: LANCETTIER  was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding’s near fore suspensory ligaments had collapsed. LANCETTIER  was
humanely euthanased. Click here to find more horses missing in action.

My newby bit

South Australia has jumps races coming up soon......let's see how useful their rules are.......

In South Australia Local Rules of Racing:

If in a hurdle race or steeplechase, any horse runs off or for any other reason does not complete the course the Stewards may determine that no riding fee be payable to the rider of such horse. (In other words......... don't pull up the horse, no matter in what state it is in, or you wont get paid!)

If a rider in hurdle or steeplechase event evades any jump, unless directed to do so by a Steward or his a appointed representative, his/her horse shall be thereby disqualified for that race and the rider may be punished. (I say  punishment should be by whipping them)

Any horse getting away from its rider may be remounted and ridden for the remainder of the race provided that no jump has been evaded and any rider so losing his/her horse may be assisted to catch and remount it. (Excellent, I suppose even with a broken leg, there is the prize money to consider)

If a horse refuse any jump in a hurdle race or steeplechase and it can be proved to the satisfaction of the Stewards that it has been assisted in completing a jump in any manner by any person other than its rider the horse may be disqualified from the race.(Well, there goes that idea of mine where we stood beside the jumps and lifted the horses over, bugger!)

Interesting thing to consider so far this season

Weeping Willow raced on March 1 at Pakenham, stewards say " A post race veterinary examination of Weeping Willow revealed the gelding was lame in the near fore leg."WeepingWillow"

Port Phillip, who fell at trials on  24th Feb, 2009 at Moonee Valley probably wont be seen again.

Fiddleray Qualifies Over Steeples
Fiddleray is a horse of concern
He qualified for hurdles in July 2008,  then had one hurdle race at Hamilton in which he came 4th of 5. In his next race at Warrnambool his result was "lost rider" and consequentlyspelled 24 weeks. He has raced 2 flat races in the past few weeks: placed 9/10 and 10/10 . At Warrnambool he attended the steeple trial. Given that he has only completed on formal hurdle race, how is he allowed to then move to steeples?
